I would like to invite you on a voyage to a remarkable part of the world--a step back in time, a place where centuries old traditions are very much alive. To explore with you the vast, magnificent desert that evokes past epochs, of dinosaurs and a time when the Sahara was a verdant pasture full of people and animals.

Let me introduce myself. I am Leslie Clark, artist, owner of the Nomad Gallery in Ojai, California and founder of the Nomad Foundation and Nomad Adventures. About 12 years ago my life changed profoundly when I went to Niger and met my first nomad. Since that first meeting I have gone back every year to expand my friendships with the two nomadic groups who inhabit the Sahel and Sahara--the Wodaabe and the Tuareg. I have led groups for ten years.

I started the Nomad foundation to help these people survive and preserve their beautiful traditions. I founded Nomad Adventures to foster an appreciation for the value of these cultures and their environment, to show people the work of the foundation, find support for its projects and bring employment to the Tuareg who are my partners.
